Real-Time Rendering in 2023: How We Delivered Our First AAA Project
A milestone year for Gamenic we shipped our first AAA-grade real-time visualization project, pushing the boundaries of what a boutique studio can achieve.
2023 was a defining year for Gamenic Virtual Studio. After years of building our capabilities in real-time rendering, we landed and delivered our first truly AAA-grade project a fully interactive virtual showroom for one of Nepal’s largest automotive distributors.
The project scope was ambitious: 12 vehicle models, each with full interior and exterior detail, real-time paint configurators with over 200 color options, interactive feature exploration, and a virtual test-drive experience all running at 60fps on consumer hardware.
Our biggest technical challenge was achieving film-quality car paint materials in real-time. Automotive paint has complex multi-layer properties base coat, clear coat, metallic flakes that interact with light in ways that are notoriously difficult to simulate. We developed a custom shader system that accurately models these layers, complete with view-dependent flake sparkle.
The project required close collaboration between our 3D modeling team, our shader artists, and the client’s product team. We established a weekly review cadence with interactive sessions where stakeholders could explore the latest builds in VR, providing feedback that was immediately actionable.
The result exceeded everyone’s expectations. The client reported a 60% increase in showroom engagement time and a measurable uplift in configuration-to-purchase conversion. For us, it validated our investment in real-time technology and proved that a Kathmandu-based studio can compete at the highest levels of digital production.
